- the rapid spread of plantations as farms are bought up in Tasmania’s North;
- progressive decline of northern rural communities;
- logging of over 300 sq km of forest per year to feed the mill and for export;
- more log trucks on the road;
- more chemical spraying and contamination of waterways;
- less water in our rivers draining from plantations at a time of decreasing rainfall;
- polluted air (particulates and smell) from a pulp mill in the Tamar valley airshed – home of 100 000 people;
- contamination of pristine waters of Bass Strait and potential damage to fishing industries;
- potential decline in tourism as visitors avoid the pulp mill.
