TAP: Public opposition to the project has not diminished

“Any prospective buyer of the Tamar Valley pulp mill site and permits should be aware that public opposition to the project has not diminished,” TAP President Tim Thorne said today.

“KordaMentha are again offering these assets for sale, but the market has shown zero interest up until now and there is no indication that it will now,” he said.

“It is disappointing that Forico, who looked as if they were promoting a sustainable timber industry, have now said they would sell their plantation timber to a pulp mill in the Tamar Valley.  We are confident that no such mill will ever exist, so they had better concentrate on producing higher value, less polluting timber products,” Mr Thorne added, “And if any mill is considering using native forests for pulp, then they’ll have even greater opposition and no customers.”
